Position Size

The formula is simple: position size = risk amount ÷ (stop loss in pips × pip value per lot).
Example: you have $10,000 and risk 1% = $100. Your stop loss is 20 pips on EURUSD, where 1.00 lot pays $10 per pip. So: 100 ÷ (20 × 10) = 0.50 standard lots.
Keep position size consistent across trades — that consistency is what makes your win rate and profit factor meaningful. When you log trades in CoreTrade, every trade is measured against your equity curve automatically.

| Instrument | Pip / point | Standard lot | Approx. value per pip |
|---|---|---|---|
| EURUSD | 0.0001 | 100,000 | $10.00 |
| USDJPY | 0.01 | 100,000 | ≈$6.70 (at 150) |
| XAUUSD (Gold) | $0.01 | 100 oz | ≈$1.00 |
| NAS100 (Indices) | 1.0 point | 1 contract | $1.00 |
| BTCUSD | $1.00 | 1 BTC | $1.00 per $1 move |
Your risk is measured in dollars, but your stop loss is measured in pips. You need to convert pips into dollars: pip value per lot × stop loss pips × lots = your risk. Enter your stop in pips and CoreTrade does the conversion.
Yes. Gold (XAUUSD) uses a pip of $0.01 and a 100 oz lot (~$1 per pip per lot), silver uses 5,000 oz per lot, and indices use points (typically $1 per point per lot on NAS100-style contracts). Values are approximate — confirm with your broker.
A percentage is safer: as your account grows or shrinks, your risk scales with it and your drawdown stays controlled. CoreTrade's journal tracks your account balance over time so you always know your real equity.
The calculation works with any account balance; pip values are shown in the quote currency. If your account is in EUR, GBP or another currency, convert the result or confirm the pip value your broker uses for that denomination.
No. Leverage only affects the margin your broker requires, not the amount you should risk. Position size is driven by your risk percentage and stop distance — never by how much leverage is available.
Yes. Select the crypto instrument or enter its contract size and point value manually. Crypto contract sizes vary widely between brokers, so always check the contract specification before sizing.
